When Melissa returned to the healthcare sector to support her community, her first goal was to find the staff who shared her passion for customer service.
Melissa set out to find experienced team members, who not only had the skills to meet the complexities of providing care in a rural area, but whose values aligned with a passion for personalised care.
“You can’t train people to be person-centred, to be kind and to genuinely care,” she said. “You need to be in it for the right reasons.”
Using her networ

ks, Melissa found a team of Support Professionals who were equipped with a depth of experience and knowledge that would support her community's diverse preferences and needs.
“Everyone that I have employed has a caring background. They come from aged care, disability, case management and lived experience. We’ve even got a registered nurse on the team,” she explained.
“Positive feedback from the people we support, and the wider community reinforces that we are on the right track,” she said.
Melissa’s dedication to her team was also celebrated by Just Better Care, when she won the National People and Culture Title in 2018.
