There are moments in this work that go beyond a care plan or a rostered shift. Moments that remind us why supporting people to live well at home with dignity, connection, and joy is so much more than a job.
We recently received a beautiful message from Kylie Byrne, daughter and carer of Barbara (Barb) Moran, who has been receiving aged care support through Just Better Care Brisbane North since late 2025.
We share it here with Kylie's permission and our deepest gratitude because her words deserve to be heard.
Kylie's message to our team
"I would like to take the time to put into words our unwavering gratitude and appreciation to all the Just Better Care teams for providing support through all the difficult circumstances we have experienced since joining Just Better Care in late 2025.
For Mum, your collective support provides her with a safer and better environment to live and manage her disease, where she can still be treated with love, kindness, compassion and respect. For my husband and me, our gratitude is also endless as it allows us the support to be able to cope with, juggle and manage the day-to-day challenges of taking on the responsibilities of caring for Mum full-time, and gives us the opportunity to breathe, still live, and enjoy Mum for her remaining years."
— Kylie Byrne, daughter and carer of Barb Moran
Kylie took care to name the people who have made a difference in her family's life, and we think each of them deserves that recognition.
She praised the rostering team, Sabina and Olivia, for their diligence and flexibility in accommodating multiple changes to ensure the best possible care and convenience for Barb and the family. She highlighted her mum's care team: Linda, described as kind, empathetic and bubbly; Sharon, for her wonderful wit, warmth and companionship; and Prue, for being exceptionally thoughtful and always going the extra mile to improve Barb's quality of life.
Kylie also acknowledged the nurse who assessed Barb, whose respectful, individualised approach gave Barb comfort and confidence to move forward with her care. And she thanked Teagan and the Care Management team for expertly managing Barb's budget, orders, and requirements, and for providing clear, helpful guidance on the available options and resources.
It's a whole team effort, from that very first phone call through to every visit, every roster adjustment, every careful conversation. And that's exactly how it should be.
A word from our Franchise Owners
Just Better Care Brisbane North & CBD Franchise Owners Susanne Jones and Kayla Jonkers shared their thoughts on what this kind of feedback means to them and their team.
"Reading Kylie's message genuinely stopped us in our tracks. This is exactly why we do what we do every single day. Our team doesn't need to be thanked — they show up with heart because they genuinely care about the people they support. But receiving something like this is just beautiful. Knowing that Barb feels safe, loved and respected in her own home, and that Kylie and her husband can breathe a little easier — that's everything."
— Susanne Jones, Franchise Owner, Just Better Care Brisbane North & CBD
"We are so proud of every person on this team. From the very first phone call to every rostered visit, everyone plays a part in making a real difference in someone's life. Opportunities like this, where a family takes the time to share how much their loved one's care has meant to them, remind us all of the privilege of doing this work. We are honoured to support Barb and her family."
— Kayla Jonkers, Franchise Owner, Just Better Care Brisbane North & CBD
To Kylie and to Barb, thank you for trusting us with your care. It truly is a privilege.
