Step 1 Pre-planning
Careful planning is needed to prepare for the NDIS. It is important to think about what your life is like now, what your support needs are and what your current and future goals might be. It is also important to gather information from your existing support providers, allied health professionals and specialist doctor or GP to understand your support needs.
Step 2 Meeting with the NDIA
You will be contacted by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to set up a planning meeting. To create your first plan you will meet with an NDIS representative or Local Area Coordinator to have a conversation about your current situation and supports. You can have a representative there to assist you in developing your plan.
Step 3 Starting your plan
Once your plan is approved, it is time to action it. There are supports available to help you implement and monitor your plan, this is called coordination. Coordinators will link you with service providers, address any barriers to accessing services and build your capacity to gain more independence.
