Every cloud has a silver lining, or so the saying goes. When David and Samantha* were feeling smothered by a cloud of mounting debt, that line was getting harder to see. But it wouldn’t be long before everything would begin to fall into place.
David and Samantha were already under a lot of pressure when David lost his job. With no money coming in, their kids couldn’t attend school, and then to add insult to injury, they were issued a notice to vacate their property.
If this wasn’t enough, their son’s disability provider pulled out ahead of the National Disability Insurance Scheme rollout.
Looking for support and a sense of stability, David and Samantha worked with their son’s new provider, Just Better Care Mornington, to get their family back on track.
Mornington director Duane Letson said David and Samantha had initially approached Just Better Care with some short term customer management for their son.
Understanding the severity of the situation, they worked together to employ solutions for the short and long term. With the help of the community and Just Better Care, they pulled together to find a solution.
“This was outside the realm of the services we usually provide, but we could see the family was struggling and we wanted to do what we could to help,” Mr Letson said.
“With the work of several of our community partners, we managed to get funding to get the children back in school.
"We have also linked David to some training courses to facilitate his return to the workforce,” Mr Letson said.
"David and Samantha are hard-working people who found themselves in an unfortunate situation, which could happen to anyone.
"Where others had given up, we saw a path to the family's success." - Duane Letson, Just Better Care Mornington.
