People living with disability can access in-home support delivered by one or more Support Workers to assist with daily living needs, domestic assistance, transport, social connection and nursing, and when Support Workers stay consistent, they get to know someone's routines, health needs and preferences, meaning care that's more personal and effective, with Just Better Care taking the time to match you with qualified, compassionate Support Workers who understand your needs and share your goals.
Getting the right support starts with a trusted team, and Just Better Care is here to help you by matching Support Workers based on your interests and goals. Participants consistently say that having a stable, reliable team of caring and professional Support Workers is one of the things that matters most to them, and we believe matching an in-home disability support team is a process rather than a one-off decision.

There are many factors to consider if a Support Worker is the right fit for you, and Just Better Care has the processes in place to make sure you receive the care and support that's right for you.

Participants consistently tell us that having a familiar and reliable team of Support Workers is one of the things that matters most to them.

How Support Workers can help you

A disability or NDIS Support Worker is a paid professional who supports people living with disability to do the things they want and need to do, at home and out in the community.

A Support Worker can help you with:

  • Personal care like showering, dressing and meal preparation
  • Community access like transport to activities or appointments
  • Household tasks including cleaning and grocery shopping
  • Companionship
  • Complex supports (when trained) like using aids and working with allied health and nursing teams

The right fit is about meeting a customer's values and understanding their needs and goals. Support Workers can help you build skills and independence, not dependence. They will follow your choices about how support is delivered.

Why consistent support is important

Having a consistent team who are familiar with your social and health needs along with your preferred routines can provide a more personalised and responsive service. This can help to build trust and allows you to feel safe with your support team.

This stability can have lasting benefits for customers. Just Better Care customer Sharon Arkinstall-Adair has had two special Support Workers with her throughout her entire journey.

I've also had one individual who began as my Support Coordinator and has since moved into a higher support position yet has always kept my best interests at heart. This has provided a sense of stability in my life.

I now have nine support shifts a week that help meet my social and emotional needs. I feel free to voice my concerns to my Care Coordinator and know that I will be heard. I'm supported in the community to do shopping, attend appointments, hydrotherapy, ten-pin bowling, and to socialise with others.

How do we help find a Support Worker that's right for you?

Just Better Care takes the time to match you with qualified, compassionate Support Workers.

The team at your Just Better Care office will work with you to:

  • Identify your needs, what you would like a Support Worker to help you with and what availability you need. This could be included in your NDIS plan. The team will look at your goals and aspirations, and what funding and support you need to meet them
  • Find out what your preferences are, such as the skill level of a Support Worker you'd like and any preferred personality, language and cultural considerations
  • Understand how you'd like to communicate

Building an in-home disability support team is a process, not a one-off decision. There are many factors to consider. Across the Just Better Care network, we have the processes in place to make sure you receive the care and support that's right for you.
