Disability can be difficult to define because every individual is different.
What may prove a slight inconvenience to one person may be a life-changing trauma to another. While one person living with disability may live alone and be fully self-sufficient, another may struggle to undertake even the simplest of tasks without assistance.
Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) suggests more than one in five people live with disability in Australia.
As part of its measurement metrics, the ABS identifies those living with disability as anyone who has “at least one of a list of limitations, restrictions or impairments, which has lasted, or is likely to last, for at least six months and that restricts everyday activities”.
To help define the different degrees of impact, the ABS groups disability into mild, moderate, severe or profound limitation. This is then determined by whether a person needs help, has difficulty, or uses aids or equipment across self-care, mobility and communication activities.
Whether you need access to life-changing assistive technology, help getting dressed or assistance with managing your allied health appointments, Just Better Care is sure to have an experienced team member ready and willing to help.
