Just Better Care believes ongoing learning is essential.

Our Support Workers regularly update their skills so they can provide the highest quality care to make everyday life more manageable and meaningful.

We work hard to support the growth and development of our team members and ensure the training opportunities offered to them go well beyond the entry-level CPR and onboarding training offered by many of our competitors.

We do this because we believe that knowing support is delivered with both compassion and expertise offers peace of mind to our Disability Support participants and their families.

Boosting team confidence

As its name suggests, Just Better Care is always looking at ways to drive improvement in the quality of care we offer.

With the aim to empower our team members and give them more confidence when working with customers with more complex care needs, we recently supported a number of our Support Workers as they underwent additional training to fine-tune their quality of care.

This involved engaging an external provider to make sure both new and existing team members increased their competence in physical support tasks for their customers.

We also wanted them to feel confident in their own abilities to assess risks independently and safely perform their duties without injury to themselves or their customers.

As a result, our team took part in tailored training designed for both new and existing Support Workers. The sessions helped boost confidence and effectiveness, giving our workforce a stronger understanding of equipment use and hazard response when supporting customers living with disability.

Keeping our ideas fresh

Just Better Care’s learning management system contains over 100 self-paced online courses. It is regularly updated with new, fresh content to ensure our Support Workers are kept up to date with the latest developments in disability support.

In addition to this, we keep a close eye on ongoing federal, state and private sector pilot projects that can assist our teams to carry out the important work they do to help those living with disability.

One such program will see disability Support Workers equipped with practical skills to provide safe and effective diabetes care.

The program, a joint partnership between Disability Australia and Nib Foundation, will see a trial launched that will train disability Support Workers so they have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to safely inject insulin.

It is anticipated the trial will become standard for every person living with diabetes and disability to have access to appropriately qualified Support Workers. It is expected this will result in more timely and personalised care, reduce preventable complications and create better overall health outcomes.

Just Better Care Support Workers undergo regular training to keep their skills up to date, because the health, safety and independence of our customers matter most. Contact your local Just Better Care office to learn more about how we can support you.
